The dog park was selected as one of the Beneful Dream Dog Projects and the Beneful team is supporting the park through Tuesday’s volunteer day along with a $20,000 donation to the Balboa Park Conservancy that will help enhance the dog park for local dogs and owners. Nate’s Point Dog Park in Balboa Park, San Diego received a $20,000 donation from Beneful as part of the brand’s Dream Dog Park Project, which was presented on Tuesday, January 26, when over 30 volunteers turned out from 10 a.m. – noon to help plant trees, mulch around each tree, and ensure irrigation was set up properly in the dog park. To make this Dream Dog Park Project happen, Beneful partnered with the Balboa Park Conservancy and the City of San Diego – both were on-site with the Beneful team for the event. The donation to the Balboa Park Conservancy went toward the improvements made on Tuesday, and will continue to fund other improvements to enhance the dog park. Read more about the improvements in the earlier blog post here.

According to the La Prensa newspaper, “The donation from Beneful not only covered the new trees that were planted today, but also will fund the purchase of an irrigation system. The irrigation system will automatically water the trees on a regular schedule to ensure they can establish their roots and grow strong, while temporary fencing installed around each tree will ensure they will mature enough to handle two and four-legged park guests.”

I visited Nate’s Point Dog Park near the end of this volunteer workday, to see how things were progressing and meet some of the volunteers. The new trees are much bigger than I expected, which is great! See a panorama video of the volunteer work in action from my Twitter feed, above.
